Artichoke Hearts

A tidy picot hem meets smooshy lace in this cozy cowl.

Worked in the round from hem to top, beginning with a provisional cast on for the hemline. Hem is joined with a 3-needle row of knitting.

The lace pattern (simple enough for a beginning lace knitter) contains decreases made by working 3 stitches together, which are most comfortably worked using a pointy needle. A sewn bind off is used for an elastic finish.

Size: 24" around by 9" deep.

Yarn: 2 skeins Sunday Knits 5ply in Angelic (merino angora), Eden (merino), Nirvana (merino cashmere) or Brigadoon (merino tweed); (each blend has 137 yd / 125 m to 134 oz / 50 g). Shown in Angelic somke.
Substitute any light worsted weight yarn that works nicely to gauge: 195 yd.

Needles & Notions: Circular or double-pointed US size 6 (4.0 mm), second set in size 6 / 4.0 mm or smaller, size 8 /5.0 mm with pointy tips recommended; crochet hook size 7 / 4.5 mm or larger for provisional cast on, stitch marker, tapestry needle.

Gauge: 18 sts = 4" in St st using larger needles and working in the round. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.
