Ethereal leafy lace border is set off perfectly with this classic garter-stitch scarf or shawl.

Knit it in two pieces beginning with a picot cast on and finishing with a garter graft. (Don't worry, I've created a photo tutorial to walk you through it).

These coordinating mitts have a similar leaf pattern, but here the leaves sprout off of their branches alternating instead of both together, with a smooth and great-fitting hand and thumb (half welt, half flap) ...

... and an eye-catching underlayer to the lacey cuff.

Stats for scarf

Sizes: Scarf (wide scarf, stole, shawl, wrap) Finished measurements: 80" long by 7 (11-12, 16, 20-12, 25)" wide. Size shown is wide scarf.

Yarn: Sunday Knits 3 ply (246 yds / 225 m per 50g skein in Eden (merino), Nirvana (merino cashmere), Angelic (merino angora) or Brigadoon (merino tweed): 2 (3, 4, 4, 5) skeins main color, 1 (1, 1, 1, 2) skein(s) contrasting border color. Shown in Eden twig with Angelic wren border.
Substitute any sport weight yarn: 330 (550, 770, 990, 1210) yds main color, 90 (150, 210, 270, 330) yds contrasting border color.

Needles & Notions: Size 4 US / 3.5 mm, size 5 US / 3.75 mm, tapestry needle, stitch markers (optional). blocking wires and T-pins (optional but recommended). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge: 25 sts and 46 rows = 4" in garter stitch. 214" per 16-stitch pattern repeat.

Techniques used: Picot cast on (explained), grafting, lace (lace stitches worked on right side of fabric only).

Size: 7" around by 8-12" long. Adjust gauge for a larger or smaller size.

Yarn: Sunday Knits 3 ply (light sport weight - 246 yds / 225 m per 50g) in Eden (merino), Nirvana (merino cashmere), Angelic (merino angora) or Brigadoon (merino tweed): 1 50-gm skein main color, 1 20-gm mini skein contrasting color for underlayer. Shown in Eden twig with Angelic wren.
Substitute any light sport or fingering weight yarn: 150 yds main color and 50 yds contrasting color.

Needles & Notions: Double-pointed needles US size 5 for cuff top layer, size 4 for cuff bottom layer, size 2 for hand, size 1 for garter border; one set (any style) size 6 needles for bottom layer cast on; one circular needle US size 4 for holding underlayer stitches when attaching to top layer;
tapestry needle, stitch markers, holder or waste yarn.

Gauge: 28 sts and 44 rows = 4" in Stockinette stitch using size 2 needles.
