A knitted hat in an easy lace pattern that seems to weave in and out,
gyring and gimbling as slithytoves would do in the wabe.

Work it in one color, or add a color change every 4 rows for pure magic!

Perfect for self-striping yarns or for using up leftovers

A provisional cast on is used to create a pretty picot ribbed hem

Make Slithytoves as a classic cap (above), as a beanie, as a classic beret (below) or a slouchy one -
pattern includes instructions for all

Finished Size: 22" band circumference; 221/2 (28)" hat circumference for cap (beret); hat depth is 9 for classic versions, 111/2" for slouchy beret or beanie.

Yarn: Sunday Knits 3 ply (225 m/246 yd per 50 gm) Eden (100% merino), Nirvana (92% merino 8% cashmere), Brigadoon (merino tweed) or Angelic (75% merino, 25% angora); Shown in all 4 yarn blends: 225 (275) yds.

Needles and notions: Circular or double-pointed US Size 2 (3.0 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm), tapestry needle, crochet hook for provisional cast on, stitch marker.

Gauge Using size 5 needles, 25 sts = 4" in stockinette stitch.

Skills needed: Lace knitting, provisional cast on.
