Mitten cuffs are joined for working in the round with a narrower slip-stitch rib over cuffs and palms and a dense cable on the backs

Needles & Notions: Size 8 / 5.0 mm for scarf and size 5 / 3.75 mm double-pointed or circular needles for mittens; cable needle or double-pointed needle; markers; stitch holders (or waste yarn); tapestry needle.
Gauge: 16 sts and 36 rows = 4" in thermal rib stitch on larger needles; 22 sts and 30 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch on smaller needles.
